Furniture Makeovers

I have a lot of weaknesses. Cheese. Pugs. Lying to my husband in the morning and saying that the kids had a horrible night so that he takes pity on me and I can sleep in. More cheese. My biggest weakness of all, though? Thrifted furniture. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t check Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and all of my other million apps for people selling their treasures. And if I have a “day off”? You bet your bottom dollar you can find me at every Goodwill, Salvation Army, and local thrift store every nearby town has to offer. It’s sort of a problem. Ok, it’s a big problem.

BUT…

I am not exaggerating when I say that every single piece of furniture in my home (except for one love seat, a gift from my mom) is thrifted. Every. Single. Piece.  My practically new Ethan Allen sectional sofa WITH matching love seat? Craigslist. $150. Dining room table? Facebook Marketplace. $50. Gorgeous antique vanity from the 20’s in my bedroom? Goodwill. $25. Coffee table? Free. Side of the road. It can get weird sometimes…

The point is, with a teensy budget, and a bit of sandpaper and paint, I have created spaces that seem to be MUCH more expensively furnished than they are. I’ve also given our home a uniqueness which I adore. I can guarantee that no one will ever walk through my front door and say “Cute buffet! Pottery Barn? I have the same one!” Nope. My home is filled with character because of the one-of-a-kind pieces I’ve collected along the way. And you know what? It feels great to look around a beautiful room full of gorgeous, authentic pieces and know that it cost our family next to nothing.

In this section, I will teach you the methods to my thrifting madness, show you some of my favorite transformations, and let you in on my simple tricks for turning dated furniture into pieces that will take you to your happy place.
